I am playing with NASlite+ usb on a Duron 750 with two hard drives installed.

After a power failure, one of the hard drives would not remount and I had to format it again. Is this normal or was I just unlucky?

I would not want to suffer data loss just because there was a power failure.

When you say "would not remount", what do you mean? Did it hang during reboot? How did you format it?

Many Thanks for your reply.

Sorry to be so vague - it was about 3 weeks ago when this happened.

The sytem did not hang but fully booted and the other drive was available as normal. The drive in question was just not recognised as a readable drive - I don't remember what the actual error was reported as.

I then had to use the 'configure storage disk' option in the options menu to get the drive to work again - this of course deleted all files on the drive.

Thanks

Tony, - any more thoughts on this? I am curious about the risk of power cuts. (I will be using a UPS, but nevertheless...)

I would say that I have had at least 10 or more due to one thing and another and I have never had a problem mounting the disks, and have never lost data! the nas was being accessed once or twice during a failure but i have never written to the disks at the time of failure.

all i do is power up and wait for naslite to check the disks and thats about it.

Mine is now plugged in to a UPS but it only lasts about 10 - 15 mins.

The ext2 filesystem is a proven, robust filesystem that has been used in server environments for many years now. It is compact, capable of large file support and maximizes the available storage space on a drive in comparison to a journaled filesystem. That said, it is still dependent on the hardware to perform as necessary. It is theoretically possible that corruption may occur on any filesystem, including ones residing on RAID in events where hardware fails.

My thoughts on this are that if your hardware is properly configured and maintained, it is highly unlikely for the filesystem to become corrupt.
