Hi,

I'm sure this is a very basic question, but please forgive a total linux newbie.

I'm able to get Naslite+ to boot successfully from CDROM, but am unable to save the config file. Now, this could be down to a dodgy/broken floppy drive, but I'd like to rule out the possibility of my not having prepped the floppy correctly.

The instructions say that it must be a clean, formatted floppy disk - I'm using an empty 1.44MB floppy, but I formatted it under Windows (using FAT). Am I correct in thinking that Linux uses a different file system for floppies, and if so, how can I create a blank one? Not having any other linux systems to use, is there a Windows utility that can create a blank floppy in the linux file system?

Many thanks,

Richie

The floppy disk format and/or filesystem is irrelevant to the NASLite configuration since the configuration data is written directly to the media. A 1.44M formatted floppy disk should work fine regardless of what’s on it.

Thanks Tony. All working well now. The problem was the (somewhat knackered) plastic casing on the old PC I'm using, which was preventing the floppy actually 'clicking' into the drive properly.
Open case, floppy in drive, case back on, bingo!

Just waiting for my 200GB drive to be delivered now...
