Ques1...now When I start my storage sever the boot stops because it
says 'no keyboard is present'
so I have to connect a keyboard to get it to boot. Is there a
setting in the bios I need to change to stop this happening ???

Ques2...If for some reason my USB key failed, I know using the CD I can
configure a new key, but when using this key would the new key
accept the existing disk set up, or would it want to re format the
disks etc.

Ques3...simlar question if I use removable hard drives in my storage
server would the set up reconise the swopped disk or would it
have to reformat each time I changed a disks ??

Any help much appreciated

Okay I am unsure about your keyboard issue there probably is a setting. but I will hopefully answer your other questions.

One thing to try for the bios settings is to turn off basically all options. being that the server package only need the bios to boot, but then uses its own settings and not the bios settings. So just go along all options and disable everything you can EXCEPT the device you boot from.

You only ever have to format your disks one time. What the format does it to format the disc so the ext2 file system is used. When your server boots it will look at each drive and try to mount it/(load contents) to the server. IF the disk has the ext2 it should load it.

SO even if your boot device fails, if you make a new one, all discs that worked in the past should still work. The same will go for the removeable drives.

The only thing is that if you move a hard drive into a desktop linux machine you can possibly run into problems IF the desktop pc actually changed permissions on the files.

But for just swaping out and back into a NAslite server you should have no problems at all.

The keyboard problem can usually be eliminated by proper BIOS configuration. As far as the USB reconfiguration and drive swapping, NASLite will have no problems mounting existing NASLite drives. You can run any NASLite version against any NASLite disk without reformatting.

Many thanks for the reply your answers made my day I was worried about having to transfer loads of data from disk to disk if my USB key failed.
