Hello,

how is it possible to install the boot image of the NASLite+ CD version on one harddisk ?
If I don't use the CD-Rom for booting I could use 4 instead of 3 IDE-Harddisk with NASLite+

thanks in advance

best regards
DGS

no that is not possible and never will be. This server setup is designed for easy removal and swapping of drives. With the server needing that particular drive it would not be swappable. I understand your desire for the extra ide drive. I am waiting for a new version of this software to come out and support extra ide controllers. That will really be awesome.

Any way this is what I did. Being that there is only a 10/100mbit nic in my computer/server when you use the floppy version you only get 3mb/s well that is not bad when the whole server is setup, but if you try to move hundreds of gigs it would be better to maximize you speeds.

I bought the cd verison, then I placed my 3 drives in the machine, I filled them all up, then I swapped out one for another drive, I filled that most of the way and now I just downloaded the free floppy disk version. Now that all the heavy work of transfering is done. 3mb/s is fine for small transfers even a few gigs if need be.

SO I hope this helps you out.

Also you could but a supported 1000gbit card for the machine and the use the smbG version. I believe that version gets much better speeds.

Hello Animatt,

thanks for your answer.

may be it will be a good way to boot from usb-stick.

But I don't know if my old mainboard will support this.

best regards

Dieter
