This should be VERY VERY simple to implement.

I was wondering if it was possible to set default boot of all drives in -ro mode.

Obviously you really do not want to be allowing all different disk rights, but a full access and read only access options would be very nice.

I want to setup a media server that allows read only access. If I have to I could buy individually compiled version if need be if at all possible. I will use my NaSLITE version to move all my files around and then I will turn off and insert that disc. Only difference all hard drives would boot up in RO mode. This would be tremendously valuable to me.

Thanks for your time and good work TONY

While I think your proposal has a lot of merit animatt, I have a different suggestion.

Instead of setting the disks as read only, requiring a reboot to transfer some content, what if the server mapped two folders for each drive. One with full read and write access while the other folder would be read only.

(That's what I thouhgt the read only disk folder might be before I started using NAS Lite)

This would allow me to transfer content when using the correct folder but would also allow for a client to be accessing the read only folder without any chance to alter the content.

This would be perfect for a media/video/music server.

What do you guys think ?

Berg, I was also thinking along your lines of thinking for my personal server at home, but another server I want to setup will have varing people accessing it.

Basically I want to have a media server in a house my father has. It is a vacation house. I want the server there to have when i go there. This house also gets rented out. I figure if I have the media server there while I am there, it would be nice thing to let other people use it. I want a totally read only boot, because if someone with anytype of computer knowledge were to access the server they could cause trouble.

Well that is where I am coming from.
