I’m new to NAS Lite and a bit confused.

IN SHORT: I can’t get past the initial setup. At save settings I get the message: "configuration not saved."

MORE DETAIL:
I have a cumbersome Microsoft Server here that I’m trying to convert to a sleek, efficient, NAS. I purchased the NAS Lite server suite to accomplish this.

I have a 4-disk RAID 5 Array on a LSI Mega-RAID controller, and 1 CD-ROM on the IDE.

I’m pretty much stuck on the first step.

I boot from CD and successfully enter the NAS software. I configure my network, and load my serial number, then try to save, but with no success.

The system seems to do nothing and immediately prints on the screen “Configuration not saved”.

I have 2 questions:
1. Can the NAS Lite+ software be installed without the use of the floppy?
2. If not, then what should I look at as being the problem?

MY floppy drive / disk seems to be good (formatted in Windows without error). But I’m not entirely sure. I dusted off am old drive and disk which was sitting in my basement since last century!

I’d prefer to by-pass the floppy requirement, if possible.

My goal here is to have the NAS LITE OS boot from the hard disk on it's own little partition.

Hi Ludwig,

Welcome to the NL world :) If you need to install on a HDD, you need NL 2 HDD :)

The HDD that will host the NL OS will be mainly used for NL. It is better to have à USB version with a small USB key that holds everything (OS and the settings). If not, many have a CF card with a card reader to install the HDD version (I haven't used this option thus I only know what I have read on the forum).

NASLite v2 is better and faster. All 3 versions (CD, USB and HDD) are the same, only the place where you install it changes. CD version needs also a floppy to save the config.

Regards

The NL server suite is based on NL1.x and as such does not support the RAID card you have.

Like robrub has said, you need the NL2.x version of the OS. Once you get that it should be smooth sailing from there.
