Hey everyone, I was wondering about the proper way to shutdown my NASLite+ server.

Since I've set it up everything works great. I've decided not to use a moniter or keyboard on the old Dell machine. Thus, the only cords coming out the back are the power and cat 5, pretty cool.

My question is this, when I'm finished sending files to the NASLine+, what's the best way to shut down the server without a moniter and keyboard?

I've been just pressing the power on button until the machine shuts down. Thanks for any help.

Although it will usually work without a problem, what you are doing is not a safe practice for a number of reasons. For example, in the remote possibility that you have open files or some of the currently active data is still in RAM and not synced to the physical drives
, shutting the system down may result in a corrupt file. The proper way to shutdown NASLite is as follows:

1. TELNET into the NASLite server.
2. Login to the Admin Utility.
3. Initiate Shutdown by selecting Option 7
4. Manually power down 5 seconds after the beeps.

By using Option 7, the server will sync all drives, flush all buffers, kill all processes and generally tidy everything up before the power is cut.

Hope that helps.

Tony, thanks for the fast reply. :D

So that's why the manual says "Remote Administration"! Duh!!

TELNET works great, but I think you meant to say Option 8.
