I've got 3 online disks (and the CD-ROM drive) and want to upgrade one of the disks from 120G to 250G. What is the best way to do that?

Can I:

1. Take NasLite+ offline
2. Configure the system to have just the 120G drive and the new 250G driver
3. Use the disk manufacturer's disk utilities to copy the contents of the 120G to the new 250G
4. Reconfigure the system to remove the 120G driver and put the new 250G drive in its place
5. Restart NasLite+

Upon restart, will NasLite+ be fat dumb and happy even though the old 120G drive has now been replaced by the new 250G drive?

Thanks.

Well, there are a number of ways that you can approach the move to a 250G drive. To move the data over to the new drive, you can use Ghost, or the vendor utilities as you specified in your post. In theory, both should work as necessary, but I personally haven’t done either one. Ideally, I’d use a live Linux CD to perform the move quickly. Make sure you preserve the user permissions if you opt to use Linux (cp –a …).

If you are not a Linux user there is an easy way that does not require any additional tools. It will most definitely work, but is time consuming. Remove one of the drives you intend to keep and replace it with the new 250G drive. Configure the new drive with NASLite and use a client machine to move the files over from the drive you wish to replace to the new drive via your LAN. When done, remove the unneeded drive and replace the originally removed drive.

Anyway, there are many ways to do what you need. It all depends on what you are most comfortable with.

The put in new drive, use client machine to copy approach hit me on the way home today, and I'm sure it would work.

The last time I tried a Live Linux distro on this box, the video was all messed up. I was able to install a Red Hat distro without an issue.

Any particular Linux distro you'd care to recommend?

Thanks.

Personally, Slackware or Gentoo are my favorites, but any character-based version should do. Boot, mount the two drives and "cp -a source destination".

I removed one of the disks and installed the new 250GB disk. The info page shows Disk-3 as installed but not configured and says it can be configured with NASLite+.

When I go into the Admin page on the box itself and choose to configure disks, if I select disk 3 it errors out on a umont commend for disk-3 and says failed to configure disk-3, disk-3 can only be configured if it is a fixed disk ...

I'm thinking that since Disk-3 used to be a valid disk, I have to save config and reboot with Disk-3 being a blank disk and then try to configure the disk.

Any thoughts?

You need NASLite+ v1.1 available for download using your original download link.
