My NASlite 1+ server has crashed, cause unknown. I am unable to get either of the the HDDs to mount. Error message says "unexpected inconsistency, run fsck manually. Disk 1 filesystem is not mountable. Disk 2 found partition". When we get to the menu, Disk-1 is hown as "unsuccessful" and Disk-2 as "not a disk"

Please, how do I fix this? How do I get to fsck and run it? Any other ideas.

Thanks.

Try a different cable on the drives and see if that clears it up. Try the simple stuff first and move on to the more involved stuff after. Also check the memory to see if it has any bad cells or blocks.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm afraid I've had no success.

(1) Changed HDD cable. No difference.
(2) Tested memory - 100% pass.

(3) I have Knoppix 3.6 but could not find e2fsk or e2fsck. I booted another Linux rescue CD (Knoppix based) and ran:

e2fsck /dev/hda
(and also e2fsck /dev/hd0 just in case)

The response was:

e2fsck: Bad magic number in super-block while trying to open /dev/hda. The super-block could not be read or does not describe a correct ext2 filesystem. If the device is valid and it really contains an ext2 filesystem (and not swap or ufs or something else) then the superblock is corrupt and you might try running e2fsck with an alternate superblock: e2fsck -b 8193 <device>

I ran:

e2fsck -b 8193 /dev/hda

but got the same message again.

Can anyone help please.

Thanks!

I don't know much more than this, but try

e2fsck /dev/hda1

and make sure the disk is not mounted.
