NASLite Network Attached Storage

No user management and disks will be named Disk-0, Disk-1 ... Disk-N consecutively where N is the last available disk. In theory, NASLite-2 will be able to export 128 volumes, so if you can interface and power the drives, you can export them. Naming drives on the server end is not practical at this point, so that functionality is left for later review.

Just a point of reference - The NASLite-2 bootable image is approximately 3.2Mb in it's compressed state.

A way I found to circumvent the Disk-1 to n naming convention is to create a dir at the root of the disk, say (Media Library), then from Windows, when mapping the network drive, browse to that directory and map that.

In windows, the map then says Media Library on ...... X:.

On Windows, once you map a network drive you can rename it to what ever you want.

Click on Start->My Computer then in the Network Drives section right click on one of the NASLite drives and a small menu will come up. Click on Rename and type in a new name and press Enter.

That will rename the drive for that computer. If you have multiple computers you would have to do it on each one.

That works great in 2K/XP. Anyone have an idea on how to do that in NT? I have a client that can use that feature with NT, but NT explorer does not allow for mapping of folders below the share level.

Any ideas?
