I'm getting frustrated. Just upgraded to NASLite+. But, my server performance is STILL no better than 0.2MB/sec.

Does anyone have a suggestion on what I can do to improve the performance on this server? The box I'm using as a server is a Compaq Pentium II with 64MB of memory. I'm using 3Com Etherlink XL (3C905B-TX) 10/100 nic's in both my server and W2K box.

Thanks

Do you have an LED on your ethernet card showing the transfer speed? I had a similar problem. Then i saw that the transfer speed LED showed only 10mb instead of 100mb speed.

I tried different ethernet cards and found out that some of them only switched to 10mb others to 100mb. When the speed was 100mb the transfer speeds went up to an acceptable performance.

I did not find out what the problem with the 10mb cards was, because they worked perfectly on other hardware (was also 3Com 905 cards).

I hope you can solve your problem in the same way.

Best regards

Thanks for the advice. I thought I'd checked that earlier and the LED's showed 100mb connection. But, I'll check again later (not near the machines right now) just to make sure.

By the way, what did you eventually use for a ncard in your boxes? I see a lot of posts on this forum suggesting there are problems with many cards that have a Realtek chip. I figured I'd be safe with any 3com card......but that's evidently not the case.

Thanks again.

Blue Skies,

Sure enough, the problem was the 3Com 3C905B cards. I replaced the 3Com cards in both the NASLite+ and Win2K boxs with D-Link DFE-530TX+ cards. Wow! I just tested the throughput using diskWriggler and I'm getting 6.5MB/sec. I'm quite happy now. Thanks again for the help!
