I've tried a combo USB/Firewire PCI card (VIA VT6214L chip), a firewire only card (VIA VT 6306 chip) & a SATA/PATA PCI RAID card ( Ali M5283 chip) all with no success.
Any suggestions for which PCI card chips are supported would be appreciated

I've partly answered my own question. I can now get the USB side of the combo USB/Firewire PCI card working but still no luck with Firewire.

Also, being a Linux thicky, can anyone explain the advantages of "journaling" - ext2 to ext3
