I have used NasLite for some time, my first server was set up in 2007 and have had total of 3 running since then. One in constant use but the others just at odd times for back-ups. I have had little or no issues when using the servers other than PSU failures. I have just updated my main unit because one of the drives stared to give issues.

I have replaced the motherboard (new board has 6 Sata ports), with new processer, 8 G of memory, two extra drives and updated to NasLit-2 x64 version.

Every thing seemed to work but I'm unable to write to most of the drives. They are all set to RW but when the system screen loads The line showing 'Mounting storage (Disk-0-1-2-3-4-5 )' has most disk numbers in yellow and only 1 in white. The one in white is the only disk I can write to.

The status screen (Status/htm/storage.htm) shows all drives as READ/WRITE.

Can anyone supply me some help with this issue.

I did send a request for help on the order page but have not had any feedback as yet.

Cheers Mel

Hello Mel,

I'm assuming that the data on those drives is stuff written by NASlite, so the UID/GID are NAS-User. Check the disk contents using a browser via HTTP.

Anyway, the drives are mounted based on the partition label flags. Take a look at the status page for each drive and examine the label of each drive. They should be similar to this: NASLite-SE000160. If not, you'll have to use the Telnet Admin utility and set each drive to RW. The significant element is the 6-digit number following the -SE... as those are actually the behavior flags.

Lets start with that as there is little else I can think of. NASLite is pretty straightforward and robust in that respect. Make sure you save and reboot for changes to take effect if you reconfigure.

Hope that helps Mel.

Tony.

I did have another drive fitted but have removed this in case it was causing an issue. I was the drive that booted the system on NasLite-2 v2.6? before I upgraded to NASLite-2 x64 V2.68.

I tried looking at the drives with a live Linux CD but the drives all just showed locks.

Every thing looks correct on the System screen, all lines in white with the end [DONE] 'In Green'.

The only thing I can see is the lines Mounting storage and Starting servers, ( Disk-0-1-2-3-4) numbers in yellow apart from the 3 which is white and the servers - (TELNET HTTP RSYNC FTP SMB/CIFS NFS AFP ) all in white apart from the RSYNC in yellow.

All of the data on the drives was from data stored on the older NasLite system before I upgraded.

Cheers Mel

Hello Mel,

Looking at the data you posted, there are number of items I'm unsure about:
Quote:
Last mounted on: /media/ubuntu-mate/NASLite-SE0001211
followed by your comment:
Quote:

I'm interpreting that as you mounted the drives using Ubuntu live and they were still locked. If that's a correct interpretation, then the issue is not NASLite, but the filesystems.

Can you provide a dump of the http://YOUR.NAS.IP/Status/htm/storage-Disk-X.htm pages, specifically the Filesystem Details. NASLite will not export a filesystem as writable if damaging the filesystem is a possibility. NASlite assumes that it maintains the filesystem, so where it encounters unidentified markers or a filesystem version other than what it expects, it will stay clear of modifying it's contents. Were the filesystems modified in any way by Ubuntu as it uses ext4 by default. NASLite uses ext3.

When I booted the system from the live cd it was only to look at the drives and I did not attempt to write to any disk.

Here's the information you asked for -

To try and the system working I have copied the data from disks 2 & 3 to disk 4. I could not unmount the drives using the telnet system. So I then used the install cd to format the two drives. I then removed the cd and started the server from disk-0 and then mounted disks 2 & 3. Saved the config and restarted but the system would not boot until I put the cd in the drive and it started off this. I can now write to disks 0, 2, 3 & 4 but not 2 or 5.

When in the telnet system the STORAGE CONFIGURATION MENU seems to over ride any changes made in the individual Disk config menus ?

0 - Disk-0, DEVICE-SDA, HOST-0, BUS-0, TARGET-0, LUN-0
1 - Disk-1, DEVICE-SDB, HOST-1, BUS-0, TARGET-0, LUN-0
2 - Disk-2, DEVICE-SDC, HOST-2, BUS-0, TARGET-0, LUN-0
3 - Disk-3, DEVICE-SDD, HOST-3, BUS-0, TARGET-0, LUN-0
4 - Disk-4, DEVICE-SDE, HOST-5, BUS-0, TARGET-0, LUN-0
5 - Disk-5, DEVICE-SDF, HOST-5, BUS-0, TARGET-1, LUN-0

G - General Storage Option Menu

R - Return To Main Option Menu

I never had any problems with NasLite-2 but can't seem to get a stable system with NasLite-2 x64.

I look forward to your next response.

Cheers Mel.
