Evening all,

if you have say 3 disks all 500Gig for example

Disk -1
Disk -2
Disk -3

Disk - 2 set set to mirror Disk-1 at 00 ... /Disk-1/00
Disk - 3 set set to mirror Disk-1 at 02 ... /Disk-1/02

If disk -1 fails for some reason what happens when disk- 2 & disk -3 try and do a mirror function ?

because it cannot see drive -1 will you get 2 blank disks ?

or is this a better way of doing mirror function ?

Disk - 2 set set to mirror Disk-1 at 00 ... /Disk-1/00
Disk - 3 set set to mirror Disk-2 at 02 ... /Disk-2/02

Steve

no idea really - but following your question to yourself on the 1st option and assuming thats correct if you then go the the second option will the result not be the same if disc1 fails as disc 2 will be blank after it mirrors a failed disc1 which when disc 3 copies the then blank disc 2 gives the same result?

surely the 2nd backup should not be started before its known the first one is good

If the "disk to be copied from" is dead, missing etc, the mirror will NOT activate.

If you DEL the contents of the disk by error , then yes, the other disks will be wiped too
