I have 2 NAS servers.. 192.168.1.20 and 192.168.1.21 Idea is 21 will be the backup server with read only export, and I will put it somewhere that it might likely survive in a fire..

Anyways.. i'm on .21 It only has one disk. Disk-0. I want to mirror .22's Disk-1 to it.
I go to the mirror settings on Disk-0 of .21 and type in
192.168.1.20/Disk-1/8

NAS tell me that's good, do i want to apply the changes. I say yes. It returns me to the Disk-0 Menu but no mirror has been set.

What's wrong here?

Currently i'm heading to bed so i thought it couldn't hurt to run a full check file system on both drives. One is a .20 is 500G raid the other is a straight up 1TB (.22)

1TB (192.168.1.21/Disk-0) just finished: results are:

11 inodes used (0.00%)
1 non-contiguous inode (9.1%)
# of inodes with ind/dind/tind blocks: 0/0/0
3882611 blocks used (1.59%)
0 bad blocks
1 large file

0 regular files
2 directories
0 character device files
0 block device files
0 fifos
0 links
0 symbolic links (0 fast symbolic links)
0 sockets
--------
2 files

So that's good. It's blank. Freshly formatted. I'll post the 500G raid tomorrow (192.168.1.20/Disk-1). Should it happen to find anything wrong how do i do a fix ? The scan and fix is greyed out. I suspect I need to unmount it (change the export as to --).

I'm a bit lost as you are writing about IPs ending .20, .21 and .22 .... for 2 servers.

The server that will be used for te backup CAN NOT be read only (you'll have to write on it if you want to back-up !) and the first server has to be RW also (if you change the data on it)

Sorry about the 3 ips.. there is only .20 and .21 with .21 being the back up.

Both file system checks came back good.

I just changed .21 to be RW and rebooted. That did the trick.

I wish nas would give an error saying it must be RW.

I also wish it could be RO and still mirror. Just exported as RO so the users, shoudl they find it, can't change files in the back up.

Well there you get into file read/write permissions and the like which kinda goes against the basic "simple setup" tenets of NASLite.

Glad you got it fixed.
