but looking at the first card i posted the cache and be increased by using ddr1 laptop ram not sure

The second card you link to has 128MB of RAM on the card and pretty sure that it will be more than enough. I always worry about more connectors and a laptop RAM module is more connector. I would go with the 9550 card over the 9500 since it's bus will go all the way to 133MHz if you have the MB with support. The soldered on RAM to me is a plus too.

The cable below is a multi-lane cable for use with some array chassis and/or some cards like the 12, 16, and 24port cards where there just would not be enough board space for all the SATA connectors. You don't likely need it unless you are using a drive cage with a back plane that has a multi-lane connector. The 9500 and the 9550 cards that have 8 ports and below have simple SATA connectors. 3Ware may have variants that do have the multi-lane but likely this would be on the back plate for external connection to a storage chassis.
