I have been thinking about getting my wife a Chromebook. I am between it an and iPad. She will use it mostly for web browsing, etc, but I also want her to have access to all the files I have on the home NASLite box.

Has anybody had any experience with a Chromebook?

From what I can gather everything is web-based, but I didn't know if anybody knew of an app that might allow her to browse the NAS.

I know she can see the directories via HTTP and double-click on one to open a jpg in the browser, but it would be great if she could manage some of the photos (move between folders, etc.).

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Rick

I have an Android phone and have no issue with getting to my NAS files. I use an App called file expert. I suspect that you will have no issues with any of them to be honest.

Mike,

Thanks for the quick post. I found an iPad app FileBrowser that connects to the NAS. I am leaning toward the iPad. (Probably more so since I will get a new one and let my wife have my old one!).

Thanks,
Rick

Dick move that one... Trust me when I say give her the new one and you keep the old one. It will give you a get out of trouble token for when you really need it and when the next version of the iPad comes out, soon from what I hear, you can justify getting one of those. I bought the GF a new 64GB iPhone 5 out of contract, read that as very very expensive, and still have my old Samsung droid charge. Guess who is getting a new Galaxy S4 when they come out?

Anyway, glad you got it working.
