After turning off the server and restarting I now get this repeated every hour.

•Nov 2 06:00:01 user.warn kernel: ata2: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
•Nov 2 06:00:01 user.warn kernel: ata2: error=0x40 { UncorrectableError }
•Nov 2 06:00:01 user.warn kernel: ata2: PIO error
•Nov 2 06:00:01 user.err kernel: ata2: translated ATA stat/err 0x51/04 to SCSI SK/ASC/ASCQ 0xb/00/00

Just noticed this in the system status

System Memory (RAM):

TOTAL USED FREE BUFFERS USAGE

1000M 988M 12M 19M USED 98%

I'm pretty sure I had 2X1GB ram sticks if this is the case looks like 1 may have died, I'll go and check

Location: Up State NY in the USA!!!!
shut down and then try unplugging the cables to the drive and replugging them a few times. Then restart the machine.

Tried that miKeiver to no avail. This is what the system status page shows after a film my wife tried to watch froze, looking at this no wonder it did !

SYSTEM LOAD 8754%

System memory ram usage 98%

Everything under process activity shows 0% except SMB/CIFS which shows 97%

I cant think what would be sucking the system resources like this.
The only other thing that has changed on my network is a new Asus RT-n66u router I cant see this being the culprit everything else connected is fine.

Any other thoughts

Thanks for your help

Just to follow up in case it helps someone else, in desperation I swapped the ram in my server and low and behold problem solved its been up all day now and been fine. Original ram must be bad although it booted up fine, maybe it was breaking down as it warmed up, who knows.

Anyway I hope this helps someone sometime
