using an ide-cf adaptor - has worked ok but not perfect - occasionally bios does not see it to boot which is a pain as PC is in loft - so i have to go and reset a couple of times and its then ok until it does it again

i like the OS on a seperate drive so have been looking at an ide flash drive - which brings me to the questions

1 - how big/small does the flash drive have to be - i know its been posted but i cannot find it using search

2 - is this what i need - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/32MB-IDE-SLC- ... 694wt_1235

thats 32 meg - seller has other sizes

thanks

tony

That should work but I would get a 64MB instead for a bit of future proofing.

Also, you will need a laptop hard drive adapter cable to use it on a standard desktop machine. The last 4 pins are for power on the 44 Pin ide/ata drives.

Hi Tony

Why not try a USB stick you may have lying around first ?

Some USB sticks may not work but if it works, it works all the time (mine is working OK since 4 - 5 years)

thanks Mike - had not noticed that on the power - well spotted - i think the seller does 40 pin ones - will drop him a mail

also thanks robby - motherboard does not boot from usb - i seem to remember there is a way round that with a kicker floppy - but i dont have a floppy drive - no big deal - but if i was buying then i thought the ide drive a better option
