I have an old Naslite 2-USB installation that has run very reliably, and unchanged, for several years. it is used solely as a backup device, nothing fancy. It's always been a bit slow, but very servicable and useful.

A week or two ago the server's PSU failed. I have now replaced this, nothing else was altered.

Now when I try to start the server everything goes well until the final sequence (Starting "CHECKING RESOURCES.........) when the line DETECTING NETWORK DEVICE comes up the message [NONE DETECTED} shows and the system shuts down.

Initially I thought that I had somehow dislodged the network card, but I have checked this, including removing it and re-seating but the fault still occurs. Why?

It cannot be an incompatible network card as it has worked well, if slowly, for several years. Similarly nothing has changed in terms of the installed soft/firmware with the sole exception being that I have disconnected the power and data cables from a CD-Drive still in the system from when it was a general purpose machine. This was only done with the intention of reducing power consumption.

Any suggestions why this should happen?

Hi

You know, even LAN cards die one day ;) It may be a surge problem (when the PSU died) that killed the LAN card or maybe heat or old age or...

It may be that your NASLITE instal has gone bad when the PSU died.

Try with any other "boot from CD" Linux distro. If it sees the lan card, then something weird happened to you NASlite install. Try reinstalling NASlite. If the Linux distro cannot see the LAN card, then buy a new one ;)

or in stripping the old PSU out and fitting the new one you may have unseated the card - make sure its fully pressed into the slot
