I have been running a Windows home network with Win 2000, XP and 7 clients, along with a MacBook, wonderfully using NASLite 2 for backup and music storage. I just "inherited" a couple of Ubuntu machines, one is v8.04 and the other I am upgrading now to 10.10. As a complete Ubuntu/Linux newbie, I was hoping that these machines would see and use the NASLite boxes (worked almost instantly with the Mac), but I can only reach them via FTP and HTTP. I was told that I should use NFS, but when I try to do so, I get a "location is unmountable" error. All available services, including NFS, are turned on in my NASLite machines. How do I make my Ubuntu machines interact with the NASLite boxes?

My Ubuntu box is not accessible at the moment ... but I found something in my notes ...

Try adding the following to your /etc/fstab file (after creating the appropriate "/mnt/NLServer" directory):

Code:
//192.168.1.24/Shares   /mnt/NLServer   smbfs   noatime,nodiratime,ro,guest
Do some (read-only) testing. If it works with the "ro" (Read-Only) option, you should remove ",ro" and verify by doing write-testing. I am not an expert on this ... so proceed with caution and someone else could chime in and verify ? My Ubuntu box was never used to change/write to the NASLite system.
