Question about the "
Checking For Bad Blocks" feature that's executed optionally under the "
6 - Check and Repair Disk-X Filesystem".
I am placing into service a new 1TB drive. Prior to putting data on it I'd like to make sure it is "clean" and "reliable". So ... after using the "
8 - Format Disk-X" function I used "
6 - Check and Repair Disk-X Filesystem". I confirmed I want to check for Bad Blocks (takes a *LOOONG* time, but ok). I am watching the console and it says
Quote:
e2fsck 1.40.4 (31-Dec-2007)
Checking for bad blocks (read-only test): 212266240/ 244187999
I was stumped by the "
read-only". Does this test and bad block check *ACTUALLY* find and WRITE a Bad Block List to the disk ("reserved" bad blocks) so that future normal NL use will *NOT* write to those areas ?
Thanks for any insight ...
