I have several hard drives with videos already on them, is it possoible to add them to my Naslite server?

My biggiest concern is trying to move all this data over my network my take days to complete.

if they aare formatted ext3 - then maybe - not 100% sure - if they come out of a windows box then no

if the former then try one - naslite does not write anything to a drive unless you tell it to

Tony's right. I would do it - if the stuff is on NTFS disks - like this: buy one new drive, comparable in size to the biggest old disk you have, and install & format in your NASLite box. Then, assuming the drives with the video's are still inside a computer, copy the drive (or use GoodSync, a perfect companion) to that new drive. Then take out the copied drive, install & format, and copy/sync the second drive, and so forth...

I recently tried the Promise TX4302 with two eSATA ports, but the drive - in a eSATA hard drive dock - wasn't recognized. Though this card is supported by Linux 2.6, it could be that the driver isn't implemented in NASLite-2.

As the guys have said try it you wont lose much just dont try and get Naslite to do anything if they are not recognised!

You dont say how big the drives are or the speed of your network so judging how long it would take to copy the data is a hard one to answer but to give you some idea I run 2 Naslite servers on a GigE network and sync them up using Allways Sync (works really well and not to expensive) and syncing arround 5 Tb takes about 12 hours so overnight does it for me.

Hope this help a little bit.
