Has anyone tried a SANS DIGITAL TowerRAID TR4UTBPN 4 Bay USB 3.0 / eSATA Hardware RAID 5 Tower unit with NASLite-2? Either using eSata or USB? The unit can be used as any raid setup or just as 4 extension drives in non-raid using one usb cable.

Very likely that this uses a simple softRAID SATA interface chip so the RAID function will not be there. Also being that the thing has USB3.0 I don't know if NL will have drivers for the USB chipset either. It also depends on processor and chipset used as well. Hard to give a definitive answer.

Mike,

Thanks for your input, I purchased this as I have run out of drive space on my present NASLite server. I plugged in the USB2 cable and the server would not even boot. I have ordered a USB3 card just to see if and how fast that I/F works. If nothing else I can always connect the box to my Ubuntu 10.10 machine. It also comes with a HighPoint RocketRAID 622 PCI-Express 2.0 x1 SATA III (6.0Gb/s) Controller Card, I will be trying that next. One nice thing is Ubuntu Reads and writes to the spare NASLite drives I have laying around. So if nothing else I can just set up that box to use as my overflow server.
