Hi.

Probably a subject for Mike ;)

On my office server (NL x64, v2.62) when the computer is off (during the WE and vacations) and I start it, it freezes on the 3rd line "Booting......". If I hit the reset button, the boot starts again and everything goes well till the end and the server is very fast and stable.

It makes me think that something is not "starting / waking up/ heating" fast enough. I don't know what the "booting" section is doing and how I can find out what is blocking the cold boot.

Any ideas and help ?

TIA

had similar on a windows pc - i [sort of] concluded it was a drive that was a bit slow to spin up - i turned fast boot off in bios so it did a full memory check - maybe that allowed the drive more time or just gave the whole system a little longer i dont know but it worked

powers up first time every time now

Tony hit it on the head, just what I was thinking. There is a delay that can be set for the drives to spin and come on line before the computer tries to access them. If this is to short or not set at all the thing will lock in the situation like you describe.

I had a similar problem with my SCSI and FC-AL controllers, There is a nightmare of settings to figure out!

Ones knowledge of computers is directly related to the number of times that one has F#@Ked theirs up and had to fix it.

Not necessarily, I've learned a tremendous amount from Tony's mistakes that I've fixed for him.

That is what I had thought also but there is no "delay for spin up" setting in the BIOS. I'll try to deactivate quick boot and while the memory tests, the drives should wake up (I hope)

Thanks to all for your answers :)
