I have Naslite 2 CDD version and my pc just gave up the ghost. If I take the drives and move them over to a new pc and get a new unlock code will I be able to retain my data with my configuration?

I have a Raid Card (3ware 7506-8) with 4 500GB IDE drives in Raid 5 in the machine. I think I read that I can move them to a new PC with no loss of data but I'm not entirely positive on that. But if that works would I be able to just swap out the pc's and once I have a new unlock code be able to boot back up and everything be fine?

on a non raid syatem the answer would be just move everything, unlock and you are away - i think thats the same for raid systems - but i would wait for one of the experts to confirm that

Thanks for the possibly postive info. I know if the raid was mb based i'd be screwed for keeping my data but I was hoping with a raid card it might work out. Also I am hoping it's just my power supply (gonna switch it out and see later tonight) and if so i'll get all my data off then just go and get the new Naslite - M2 and move my data over but would like to avoid losing all the data if at all possible.

There is no issue with moving the array to another machine and booting the NL CDROM there. Be sure and note the drive locations on the controller. That is to say that make sure that each drive is reconnected to the controller channel it was on before. This may or may not be an issue with your card but it will save you playing musical cables if it is to get your array back up in it's new home.

Thanks for the info. Looks like the new powersupply didn't work so it must be a board or chip problem. I'm gonna have to take the plunge to the new PC. so how do I go about getting a new Unlock code since i'll be moving to a different nic?

The same way you did the first time you loaded and configured the NAS box, RTFM! LOL I can't remember how to since I have to do it so infrequently the software is that reliable. It is rather easy though.

Just thought i'd update. I moved the drives and the raid card into the new PC and voila its' all working just as I wanted. Thanks for the replies as they were a great relief knowing I could get my data back. Oh and you can hit the Unlock code from the status pages so I did that and it worked. LOL @ RTFM!
