Hi everyone who uses NASlite-2,

I'm having problems with configuring my NASlite-2 product.
After installing the software I configured the network settings (whitch I think are correct), but when I reboot the system, it gives the message "Failed to initialize" when it starts up the network connection and shuts down......
System: HP Pavilion 7950
AMD Athlon processor
onboard network Realtek 8139
Two harddisks, 60Gig and 160 Gig

Strange thing is that when the system starts up it seems to see two network devices instead of one (the 8139C and the 8139+). Also in the network settings there is een extra option 8 (which is not discussed in the manual) in which I can choose for FIRST and LAST.

When I configure the network in try to ping (option 7 in the tools menu) the system gives "network not available". I tried both options FIRST and LAST, even tried an other network card (swiched the onboard-one of), but nothing seems to work.....

If someone knows a solution, please let me know..........

Thanks in advance!!

For starters, reset your BIOS to default.

Turn off ACPI as well.

Disable all devices on the motherboard you are not using, serial ports, ATA ports with no devices, parallel ports, sound, etc.

See if that helps. If not then try a BIOS upgrade. IF that fails to work then you may need to use a different NIC in a PCI slot.

Yes!! It worked! I switched of all onboard devices and put them back on one by one. It appears the onboard USB slots are the problem.

Thanks for your help!!

Do not turn on any devices that you don not use. The Serial, parallel ports, any USB ports, the sound card, all should be turned off. There are not even drivers for most of them so no need and it frees up IRQs.
