Does anyone have any issues in using telnet to access their nasbox in Windows 7?

I enabled both the telnet client and telnet server options, but when choosing the link from either IE or Firefox, it doesn't work for me.

I can type telnet into a start command and the telnet window will open, yet its not working in either browser.

Any suggestions on what could be its cause?

Yeah, its strange. I use my office laptop and use telnet with no problems, but can't seem to figure out why its not working in Windows7. This is fresh install of the OS as well.

as it works in windows 7 [well for me] on 2 different machines - laptop and desktop then i would be looking at other stuff - AV or firewall

i only have telnet client installed - and do not use homegroup [or whatever its called]

network is set as 'public'

I was thinking firwall and AV as well, but I have Window7 Ultimate version installed on the home PC and Wife's laptop. They have different AV on them as well, and both of them are not accessing telnet when I chose the shortcut from the web browser.

But I can go and access telnet from the start menu and access the nasbox from a telnet prompt. Just can't seem to understand why its not working via the web browsers (either FireFox or Intenet Explorer). Not a major issue, just odd that the web browser aren't launching telnet.

Correct, In a web browser, I can access the nasbox wih http://192.168.xx.xx/Status/htm/server.htm. And then when I attempt to launch the telnet, in FF nothing happens at all. In IE, it attempts to open, but still doesn't.

However, if I go the Start menu in Windows, and enter telnet, the microsoft telnet client opens/launches. I can the type "open 192.168.xx.xx and it connects.

It something in the OS here on my end, just can't seem to figure it out. Its not major issue, as I just launch the telnet manually, which actually saves a step from launching a web browser anyway.

Which version of Windows 7 are you both running? I am running Home Premium and FF gives me a "do you want to allow Firefox to open a program" andwhen I click "yes" does nothing.

Nick,

I'm using the Win7 Ultimate 64bit version. Seems we both have the same problem. Have you tried to access telnet manually like I mentioned above?

After using "telnet" on WinXP for a few years I have switched to PUTTY, mostly because the <backspace> was not properly transcribed and irritated me (more entry mistakes as you get older??) ...
