I have a soft RAID motherboard too and NL doesn't recognize my 3 drives as 1 drive. While waiting NL to support software RAID, I did my "own RAID". I set up 2 mirrors: Disk-0 is the main drive, at noon it is mirrored to Disk-1 and at 8 PM it is mirrored to Disk-2. It is kind of a local backup at not really a RAID but one has to do with what one has ;)

I am having the same problem but I am sure I have a "Hardware" Raid controller and it even shows it is supported in the compatibility list:

PDC42819 [FastTrak TX2650/TX4650]

It's the TX4650 and no matter how I set the Raid up in the BIOS it still shows up as 4 individual disks within the Disk Configuration Menu. I have upgraded to the latest version of the BIOS.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

From the looks of it this may be a software RAID card in a hardware cards clothing. Hard to tell from the provided info at promise's web site. As a general rule, if the card has a dedicated processor and memory they are keen to tell you this. These are the tells that one has a hardware based RAID card. There is no mention of an embedded processor of XoR engine so I would say that you have a JBOD controller with a fancy driver set to provide software RAID functionality.

I Believe you are correct...

There is a lot of confusion in the way Raid controllers are advertised.

Thanks!
