Right now I have Naslite-2 M2 installed on my USB drive. Whenever I save the configuration and reboot it says something along the lines of this:

Detecting network Device: None Found FAILED

then it shutdowns.

Any reason why?

Using Intel Gigabit Card (PROCT)

NASLite M2 is based on a 2.4.xx kernel, soon to be 2.6.xx. The driver base is limited but the new version of M2 is due out in the next week or two I should think, that will very likely support the NIC. You can try moving it to another PCI slot, if that fails, add another NIC and use it for now until the update is released.

With the new update it will support allot more hardware and more modern at that. It will perform much better as well.

PCIe cards were not supported in the older version of M2, the version in test right now should.

Hold on a bit longer, it will be worth the wait.

One more thing, I swapped it out with a NetGear GA311, it works, but I can't seem to ping or even access the web interface.

Check the standard stuff: proper IP address assigned (same subnet), same Workgroup assigned as other PCs in the network, hardware: re-seat all cables. Also try PING out of the M2 box ("T" Tools menu) to another PC. Make sure your firewall software allows the NAS server ...

Try configuring the box from the console first. Make sure you have the IP, subnet mask, and workgroup set properly. Be sure and save the configuration and reboot the server before trying to access via the web interface.

Ah, yes ... I forgot to mention that "pesky" save config and reboot (have fallen into that trap myself a few times.)

Outgoing PING from NAS server work to some other internal network IP (Option 7 ("Ping Remote Computer") on the Console TOOLS menu) ?
And what does Option 9 ("Show Network Configuration") tell you ?

I pinged my computer on the same network, it would hang and output nothing.

Network information shows the IP and everything on page 2, on page 1 it shows nothing

If page 1 shows nothing then the card is not recognized. Is it also PCI-E ? If so ... need to wait for CORE3 ( I think it's supposed to support it ), or let Tony add you to beta testers ...

If you are in the admin interface then there is a supported NIC in your machine. If you are having issues pinging, etc. then you may have configuration issues or hardware issues.

What's your IP, Netmask, etc? Are they in line with what your LAN uses? Is the IP you assigned to the NAS outside the range of your DHCP server? Is there a machine in the LAN sharing that IP? Some of those things may seem obvious or trivial but we all fall in the trap now and then.

If all of the above seems in order, then you may have BIOS configuration issues, IRQ problems, bad cable/connectors, bad switch/port, bad NIC, etc. Start by using process of elimination and rule items out.

If you haven't used NASLite before, you'll find that most problems discussed here seem to be hardware related and are very specific to each setup. With some troubleshooting you should have a robust NAS that will serve you well.

I'll probably wait for CORE3 then. Also I've used FreeNAS before but decided to use Naslite because FreeNAS gave me nothing but trouble.
