I have been having issues with corrupt array with my Adaptec 2610SA, and after replacing all the sata cables to the card, as well, as replacing 4 out of 5 hard-drives, and putting in new 500 watt psu, I still have some left over messages in the system server log, could someone please help shed some light - the messages are at the very bottom.

The reason I am asking for help, is that last time my array died, I lost all the family pictures that we took over the years. This is my backup array, and I was running it in raid-5, for redundancy, anyway, likely I had 90% of pictures on my laptop, and I am glad I did not delete them to free space. I want to make sure, now that I rebuilt the box, that this will not happen again. My first step was fixing all the hardware issues, next step is super clean system server log.

In the case of arrays I recommend that you use hardware that is better than consumer grade and a very large PS that is made by a quality manufacturer. Also do allot of checking into the RAID card you are going to use before buying it, some have fairly major issues that are known. If you are going to be running RAID5, I would be sure and have a hot spare in the array so if a drive fails the controller can start a rebuild in the background right off. Things happen in twos and threes, loose two drives and you are hosed. A hot spare is cheap insurance. I prefer the Seagate NS series of drives. They are designed for "Near Line Storage" in arrays. They are not as fast as the general consumer drives but have more robust firmware for use in drive arrays. (so Seagate says)

Thanks Mike. I do have Adaptec 2610SA, it has 6 slots, and I use 5 for RAID-5, 5 is just the number of 250gb drives that I had. I see your point in having a spare plugged-in, will do that asap. Does anything in the end of the log above make sense to ya?

Tony and Ralph are the guys to look at the log and tell you what it is that is happening. I can tell you that it is in relation the SATA drive being mapped to SCSI ID5. It appears that it is a problem with just one drive.

The problem is with your USB device. I assume you formatted it as both boot and storage. Format just as boot and don't use for storage if the device is flash based. If it is an USB HD, then you may have to do a check and repair on it.
