Hi there,

longtime user of Naslite (once failed to format a floppy to correct size, been hooked ever since), with currently 5 drives (4x Ide, 1x Sata), which has been working wonderfully for a number of years.

Disc-4 (Sata) is not mounting today, and I've quickly exhausted all (meagre) resources I can offer in the way of finding out what is actually wrong with it, so I thought I'd post the Syslog. If someone finds the time and patience to have a quick look, and tell me whether this disc is fried, it would greatly help!

The only thing that has changed over the past month, apart from the occasional adding and deleting data from this backup drive, is that the Naslite box became unaccessable yesterday (it has happened on rare occasions) and the PC hosting it had to be switched off and back on, so performed its usual post-freeze check up with all drives back as normal after what seemed like a small eternity.

Etien,

You might be able to save some data on off of that drive if you hook it up to another PC that has
R-linux loaded on it.

It is working, as I type, to get files off of a 300G drive that got blitzed during tropical storm hanna.

Make sure the SATA cable is properly seated and working fine. Make sure the drive is set to SATA or SATA2 in accordance to the controller and using the appropriate cable. Run OEM diags on the drive to verify it's fit. If this drive has been working fine then odds are it's a cable issue.

Thanks a lot for your replies. I just got a SATA>USB interface to try to mount the disk on my system and see if it's damaged. A SATA cable came with the device so I'll also try to change the cable in the nasbox.


EDIT

tried a new cable and checked the drive. Both seem to be fine. I'm backing up the data before trying to reformat the drive and check it extensively.
