Just finished building a NL 2.10 machine for a friend.
Got a smoking deal on Ebay for a Rackable systems C2004 machine. Dual 3.0GHz Xeon processors 533FSB 512K cache Intel chipset Intel Gigabit NIC 2GB of Reg ECC PC2700 memory 3Ware 8506 4port RAID card. Four 250GB SATA drives.
$350.00 shipping included!
Configured as a RAID5 array, installed NL2.10 on the array, configured that server, formatted the drive and away we go.
NOT A HITCH AT ALL, works perfectly.
Sustained transfer rate from the array on the NASLite box to the array on my Vista client was averaging about 62MB/sec. I also tried the 100Mbps port I was getting 11MB/sec sustained transfers, basically the limit of the port. Not bad at all.
NIC and RAID both are on PCI-X bus so this no doubt helps with the transfers. I think the limit on the transfers for the GigE were due more to the drives which were just run of the mill WD2500 Caviars. He is going to be upgrading to Seagate 750GB NS drives in the near future and I bet we see in excess of 75MB/sec at least. There is no bottle neck for my box with five Seagate X15 drives in a RAID0 array.
Great Job Tony and Ralph, the OS did not disappoint yet again!
