Guys

Great product, upgraded from 2.06 to 2.10 today and lo and behold it no longer works with time machine. Is there an expected fix and when is it likely to happen? If there isn't 2.10 is pretty much useless to me as my NAS is my raid 5 backup storage.

Also, M2...... any date as i would love it :)

That's an unintentional regression. I need to take a closer look and will post here as soon as I know where we are.

Timemachine used to work with older osx but apple broke it in the last couple of updates. Are you sure it's not your osx update that messed it up? I wasn't able to make it work with my hdd 2.06, so what version of naslite did you have it working on?

its definitely broken by apple

there was a flaw whereby time machine wasnt properly checking that info was being received by remote drives.

Its even worse if you use a time capsule, those things apparently acknowledge that packets have been received correctly before they've been fully transmitted, or something along those lines!

I'm not so sure this is an apple problem.

I use my Nas 2.10 CD and it doesn't work
I put my old Nas 2.06 CD in and everything is working perfectly, as of now I am using Nas 2.06 and time maching is working fine.

So its NOT an apple problem...... I hope that is clear for people.

Well, after a close look, I can confirm that the export configuration code for 2.06 and 2.10 is the same in all pertinent areas. So, from a client perspective, they are one and the same. I'm not sure how 2.06 can work and 2.10 not work. Are you using the same destination disk with both? Also, what version of OSX.

If you are successful with 2.06, please provide a step-by-step so we can replicate your results on our end.

I'll be interested in the steps that made it work.

For me TimeMachine never worked with NasLITE as well as a SpotLight index.
Love to hear a solution if anybody got one. (While on it. Can anybody tell me how to remove the server massage from the source code (the one you get when you connect to every single drive in the nasLITE box)) I am totally done with that one. Making it an option was probably hard to program i guess....

well i didn't do anything different, running leopard 10.5.6
put disc in with 2.10 no joy, put old 2.06 in and works just as it used to do.

On the subject can I swap my N2.10 license for N2-M2 license please?

I spent some time setting up TimeMachine last night to my NASLite-M2 box, I can confirm TM *does* work with OS X 10.5.6

The AFP binary is the same for NL2 v2.10 as well, how are you creating your sparse bundle disk image?

A little more insight, my Powerbook was running 10.5.5, duplicating my successful procedure on my iMac running 10.5.6, the PowerBook's Time Machine would not work, I updated to 10.5.6 and everything worked.

From what I recall TM broke around 10.5.2, and apparently is working again with OS X 10.5.6, so at the moment Time Machine will work with NASLite, but may break again in the future.

What settings are used for making the hard drives visible for Time Machine?
I have 6 drives and I can see all in the finder but when running Time Machine there is no disk to backup to!!

Thanks

Ralph

It may help if you put a how-to up here on how you set up your mac with timemachine and NAS products as it seems there are people out there who are struggling.

Some kind of step-by-step would be great including commands and how to put them in etc, also, how to create your sparse bundle etc etc.
