If you need occasional networked backup drive, here is how you can use a simple usb enclosure and naslite-2 to do that. I have a laptop that i use occasionally as a server to back up or otherwise service other computer on a lan.

What i did was to take a 3.5" usb enclosure with a 250g drive in it. Installed naslite-2 on it and formatted it for storage. Naslite-2 version 2.10 will do the same hdd does but on usb drives. So, you can have temporary nas at any time for whatever purpose on your lan. I use it to take with me places and use my laptop as a nas with it when I'm at customer locations. My laptop produces a boot menu at startup, so i can pick the nas drive to boot from. All i have to do is set the ip, reboot and i'm in business. That way I can image drives, access all my isos and other stuff right at the computers i'm working on. If you need your laptop you can run the nas in a vm alongside windows. I find it very useful and am sure that some of you will too.

That is most certainly an option. The new installer is very versatile indeed.
