Hi.

As hinted at in my other thread about including the possibility of turning off the filesystem checks in the next release of NASLite-2 HDD, Tony wrote:

turn it off using a linux disc or extend the time between disc checks - i think it is set at 31 at the moment [or some such figure]

To turn it off, can I use any live-CD such as Knoppix or Puppy Linux?

If so, how do I go about turning the filesystem checks off?
I would imagine that I need to type in some command-line instructions.

I am only familiar with Windoze command line, although, I can find my way around most Linux distros now, so essentially what I am trying to say is: "Please be gentle with any Linux-based instructions."

I would also still love to know WHY the currently-enabled filesystem checks take as long as they do, as no-one has answered that yet.(see other thread for times etc...)

Thanks.
:)

I'm still waiting for help with this...

Meantime, I have found a page on tune2fs here:
http://linux.die.net/man/8/tune2fs

I think I now know how to apply the commands, but NASLite-2 HDD does not seem to have any way for you to enter a terminal and process commands such as tune2fs...

I've had a look in the TOOLS AND UTILITIES menu, but there is nothing there either.

My current plan is to boot up Puppy Linux, mount the NASLite system partition, access a terminal and run tune2fs from there, making reference to hd0, which should be the NASLite-2 HDD system partition. I plan at this stage, to change the fsck to around every 60 or 70 startups, and disable the 3-monthy check totally using the -i switch.

I would like confirmation that this is the way to do it though, so if someone could...

there may be ways within Naslite but i dont think so - have been looking for a few notes i made before posting but cannot find them - but certainly thats the way i did it - cannot confirm the commands as thats the reference i have lost

Okey dokey.
Thanks.
:)

I used Puppy Linux and once up and running, mounted the drives and entered the commands, and all drives now have the checking set to 25 mounts apart(starting from 100), and I used -i 0 to disable the 3-month checks totally.

I think this is the best compromise...
