Hi.

I'm not sure what the origin of the problem is (cable, router, switch, IRQ ...) but sometimes NL disconnects from the LAN. It cant ping and cannot be pinged or accessed.

If I take OFF the LAN cable, wait sometime ans reconnect the cable, will NL reconnect to the LAN or will I be obliged to reboot NL in order to make it "visible" from the LAN ? Is several of you can test to plug off the LAN cable ans see what happens, it would be nice....

Regards

when you unplug and replug the cable all you are doing is resetting the link so you dont have to reboot.

Hi Dimension.

I have to check it by unconnecting the cable when all is working OK. But, when NL is "disconnected" from the LAN (meaning that the cable IS connected but no one can ping the NL box and NL can't ping anybody), I have to reboot NL...

I still couldn't find what is not working exactly. :(

Did you try to disconnect the cable on your NL, wait 40 sec and then reconnect it ?

Regards

Some more testing...

This morning, the NL box had disappeared from the LAN. So instead of rebooting the server, I just disconnected the LAN cable, waited 20+ seconds and reconnected the LAN cable and the magic worked. NL connected to the LAN and it became "visible" by other computers.

I suppose that the problem may be related to the router. Any ideas why the NL server disappears ?

Cut & paste of the end of syslog: (funny, I don't recall having disconnected twice but I may be losing some brain cells...)

I had that problem a long time ago, it was a NIC that was at the root of the problem. Try one of the Intel or older 3Com cards in the machine and see if that solves the issue.

I already have an Intel Pro NIC, so that is not the problem I suppose.

Some of the Intel 1000 cards do have a problem. You may be the lucky one that got one of them.

Try a different card and see if the problem persists or goes away.

I'll try to see if I have another GB card but I don't think so (and the on board GB is not seen by NL).

The server got "lost" this morning again. The funny part is that on the syslog, I see nothing; except the fact that I have unplugged the lan cable and put it back again. That is why I wonder if this a NL problem or à router problem. FYI, the NL box and an IP caméra are the only "computers" that are ON 24/24.

This is the end of my syslog . Reboot of NL on the 8th, then first cut on the 17th and the last on the 21st. The hours are irrelevant as it is when I come to the office and start the other computers and see if NL is "visible" or not.
