NASLite Network Attached Storage

Hi.

This problem used to happen when I left NL work 24/24 and all the other computers were off but I had never experienced it like I do now.

Gb LAN: 3 XP Pro computers, 1 NL server all attached to a Gb switch, 1 IP Camera and 1 Brother Laser printer and the switch attached to a modem router (100MHz).

Everybody uses the Disk-0 of NL (except the printer). Suddenly, NL vanishes from the LAN. No computer can access it, no one can ping it. All the other LAN functions (seeing other computers hard drives, access to the internet etc) are working OK. I can login locally to the NL box but it can't ping successfully the other computers or the router.

I have to reboot the NL box in order to get the NL box on the LAN. This happened twice yesterday.

Any ideas and help will be much appreciated.

My guess is IRQ problems, potentially causing the NIC to lock up. It is also possible that ACPI is causing the NIC to go dormant. For starters, you may want to disable ACPI and see if the problem persists. If not, then turn it back on and adjust accordingly.

I haven't changed anything in ACPI or IRQ but I'll have a look. Maybe IRQs changed in BIOS while some boot problem (but I'm aware of none).

Is there a way to see the syslog directly from the NL box (as I can't access it via the LAN) ?
