Hi,

I have a small but annoying problem

I am in the process of setting up a second nas server as a mirror.

When I boot, the boot process stalls on the line ieee1394: spb2: Driver forced to serialize I/O (serialize_io=1)

However, if I do a soft reset on the PC, and continues past the line above and boots normally.

Because they aren't required, I've disabled both the Com ports and the IEEE1394 port on the motherboard in the BIOS. Still no luck.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Do you have everything that's not needed turned off? i.e. onboard sound, parallel ports etc.
Any of these may cause a conflict.

Yes, I've turned them all off, but no joy.
Is it possible to disable the ieee1394 in the linux boot process, since I won't use it - or is that dangerous :)

Sounds like an IRQ problem. Remove all add-on cards from the NAS and try booting. If it boots, then start adding things one at a time.

What you can also try is to set the BIOS to PNP - DISABLE. That will force IRQ reallocation.

Still no joy I'm afraid.

I have no add-on cards on the board, and I have disabled sound, plus pnp in the BIOS.

What is weird is that is completely consistent, with a hang on the line on the first boot, but a soft reboot always works :? :?

After checking PSU (as NickC suggested) -- or replacing it -- try a fresh CMOS battery. And give us a little more info on your hardware (mobo, ram).
