Would it be possible / desirable to perform the periodic disk check in the background while making any other exported drives available?

I ask as I want some files from one of my RAID arrays and it is checking the other one (1766GB - it'll probably take a while....).

I suppose if all drives were "unclean" due to a power failure then maybe revert to the current method, but if it is just a 1 in 30 something boots check could it not be done in the manner I describe?

Virtually all the services would need to be restarted after the check... and the drives might need to be renumerated.... So I'm with you, background would be nice.... but I see why it's impractical without ALOT of work.
The prob isn't so much the check, but the check on MONSTER volumes.... that's slow. Coming up with an abbreviated check on scheduled checks would be nice... a 'real' dirty volume needs the full check.
