I'm setting up NASLite HDD and I used a "non-supported" controller, "HighPoint RocketRAID 1640 PCI SATA Controller Card" while it appears to work, however when I transfer large files, like 10Gb and up, NASLite just goes away i.e. crashes and then returns a couple hours later... My first guess is the non-supported SATA controller. I've used Promise SATAII150 TX4 on some other computers with good success, however it does not appear that this board is available from most of the on-line stores. I have two questions: (1) Will the Promise SATA300 TX4 reliably in NASLite? (2) Has anyone recently purchased and "inexpensive" SATA controller that is on the hardware support list?
Thanks for any help / insights you can offer.

You are probably having IRQ problems. Check the syslog and make sure there are no shared IRQS specially between controllers and nics. This has been discussed to death on this forum and is the problem 99% of the time.

Hi Guys, thank you for the quick feedback. Now I have something to look for/at and I have some work to do. Since this is a bit of a side project, it may take me a couple days figure out what's happening and try a couple of things...

Again thanks for you quick feedback.

Hi Guys, turning off the APCI helped but the problem isn't 100% solved.
I uploaded (2) 2.5 Gb files w/o a problem, then I tried a 16Gb file and it hung "I'm trying to figure out where it went, but it did not crash". However, when it returned (a couple hours later... see log info below), I tried the 16Gb file again and it uploaded w/o a problem.
I need to do some more digging and make sure I do not have conflicting IRQ's.
FYI - - The only items added to the log file are:
# Aug 6 19:42:34 user.info kernel: NETDEV WATCHDOG: eth0: transmit timed out
# Aug 6 19:42:36 user.info kernel: e1000: eth0: e1000_watchdog: NIC Link is Up 100 Mbps Full Duplex, Flow Control: RX/TX
