Hey guys.. I have a couple questions.. I have been running 2.03 for some time now.. and its been running great.. just added 2 sata 500GB drives.. and no complaints..

But...

I have noticed that 2.06 is out.. and its a few leaps above 3..

A) is it worth upgrading? (I am running off a USB Stick)
and If so...
B) Where do I get a copy of 2.06?

If you have bought NL in the last 6 months then you can get the upgrade through their site with your transaction number. If it is older than that then the only option is to buy another copy to get the update. This is the one thing that I hate about the software, it is really screwed to have to pay for the fixes that should be free. I don't mind paying for new and significant features and functionality but for a fix?

Sorry to be the bringer of that bad news.

Mike

I purchased it over a year ago.. It is pretty cheap with discounts though..

However I guess the question is.. is 2.06 worth it.. Are the changes that have occurred since 2.03 significant enough to warrant purchasing another copy?

I *think* that for $4.95 you can buy another 6 months of upgrades to 2.0x - check your e-mail for the notification of this offer.

I never saw anything like that in my Email. I still have a problem with having to pay for what amount to fixes. I guess that is why I am still running version #1 on the 2.4.31 kernel. The next upgrade that I will pay for will come at the next version of the OS, IE: NL3.0x based on the 2.6.xx kernel release.

I just checked all my email (and I keep all of it) Nothing came from naslite about buying 6 more months.. Unfortunately.

Hopefully an admin will let me know if there were any major significant changes from 2.03 to 2.06..

Things I would love to see would include Sata II support. Daapd stuff like that.
However I am rather sure that those features probably aren't available in even the latest version.

Sata II might be available but looks like support for ALL sata II controllers is missing.

When you click on the download link emailed to you at the time of purchase, you'll be provided with your download page or associated instructions on how to regain access to it. It was our assumption that people will attempt to use their download links prior to assuming they can no longer download a free upgrade.

Your stated policy of 6 months from date of purchase lead me to believe that I would be wasting my time with the attempt. I HATE WASTING TIME and so didn't even bother to try. Besides, it has been near 3 years since I purchased NL and don't even think I still have the link.

Not a problem Mike ;)

Just use the Download Link Retrieval dialog on the upgrades page. URL: http://www.serverelements.com/upgrades.php

I gave myself the same question a couple days ago. I was running 2.04 since it was out. Finally I did the upgrade yesterday. The main "benefits" for me is the full USB keyboard support and now can support up to 4G RAM.

I am using an "old" PC-Chip motherboard (800MHZ) that in order to able to boot from USB drive, I'll need to press F8. I used to have my OLD PS2 keyboard plug in all the time so when I need to reboot, I don't need to pull the whole box out of the rack and plug in the keyboard. With the full support of USB keyboard, now if I need to reboot, I just plug in an usb keyboard into the front usb ports (so it's less hazzle for me).

I also upgraded my ram from 512Mb to 2G. Not sure what is the benefit but just got them laying around.

Have fun.

Thanks guys.. I think I'll go ahead and do the upgrade..

I guess my last question is...

Do I need to change anything on the drives or will it be transparent to change the OS?

Transparent, you will likely need to DL a new key after the rebuild.
