Hi!

I get my copy of NASlite today and try setup my configuration. When I installed my software on harddrive and reboot the computer I got a menu where I could set IP, reset password, "shell" and some more item (restart/reboot). I try "Shell" to see if I could login to the system and wrote "login". Now I need a username and a password... I try with "admin" and pass "freenas", "free", "nas", "admin", "" but whitout any success. I want to config my system from the NAS-server. Is it possible?

Then I try to login to the NAS-server with Telnet in the same way as the manual. When I first just wrote in "run"-window in my XP "Telnet 192.168.1.250" the window opens and close directly. Then I just wrote "telnet" and in Telnet-window wrote "open 192.168.1.250" I got the error message (i translate from Swedish)... "You couldn´t connect to host-computer on port 23: Connection failed". What have I missed? Why can´t I connect to the NAS server from Telnet?

I can made the config from the webGUI but I don´t like it, it's so confused about all the menues. It was much easier in the "NASLite+ V1.x" to setup a NAS-server... The only thing I want to do is to put up a simple fileserver, with no login connected to the Windows "Workgroup" so I could connect a network drive z: to my filesystem.

Best regards
Tommy

Hi,

I just read your post twice and completely don't understand what your describing, from what I can pull out of it, it sounds like you still have freenas on your drive.

This is not a FreeNAS support forum so you will find little if any help here.

As for NL ,

Login: admin
Password: nas

I bought NASlite-2 HDD and download it from Server elements homepage as an ISO... Burn it on a CD... Put it in my CD and start loading the software on reboot. I click the menu for full installation on my HDD... Pull out my CD from the driver and restart my computer and then I came to the menu that i describe.

As I wrote when I choose "Shell" and try to login in on my NAS-server with "admin" and "nas" it dosen´t work.

How do I install NASlite-2 HDD from the SEI-NL2-HDD.iso?

Best regards
Tommy

NASLite has no "shell" option.

Please feel free to post the menu options you see when you boot your nas box.

Thanks.

Now I watch... I got my ISO-file on a CD from SEI-NL2-HDD.iso

The only thing that was installed from the CD is FreeNAS 0.686.4 rev 3374

How do i install my NASlite-server so I can start using it?

//Tommy

//EDIT//
When I start my CD I got a "Console setup"
1) Assign Interface
2) Set LAN IP address
...
6) Shell
...
9) Install/Upgrade to an hard drie/flash device, etc

When I choose 6) I can't login whith "admin" and "nas"

When I choose 9) I get this menu...
1) Install 'embedded' OS on HDD/flash/USB
2) Install 'embedded' OS on HDD/flash/USB + data partition
...
4) Upgrade 'embedded' OS from CDROM
...

The only thing I install on my HDD in FreeNas... I don't understand how I could install NASlite-2 from the CD...

Hi,

There is NO WAY to install FreeNas with a NasLite CD! There must be a mix-up either in the CDs you have or in the ISOs you have burned.

Are you sure that you haven't installed FreeNas on the computer before and that the computer is starting from the hard drive and not from the NASLite CD ?

Please check the ISO (DL it again) and burn it once more and try again.

Regards.

You have FreeNAS on your installation-CD, not NASLite. Reburn your cd with the proper iso for NASLite and start over. What you are doing is just as impossible as trying to install Windows Vista using a slackware installation-CD, its just not possible :) Either that or robrubs option, ie you are booting off of a harddrive that has FreeNAS installed.
