Hello;

I just purchase NL to replace an Freenas install Ive had for awhile, with some new SATA drives 4 X 250 GB. I installed NL without a problem and started to run thru all the setup steps. Now here's the odd part, NL boots fine and I can telnet/HHTP to it.

I added 2 of the SATA drives and formatted one, as soon as I did that and rebooted the system wont boot it goes thru BIOS and at the point where it should boot it jsut stays there with a flashing "_" cursor, If I disconnect the drives the system boots fine, I connected the 2nd unformatted drive went thru the whole process and the same thing happens. It seems to boot fine and recognize the drives but wont boot after format.

The BIOS is set to boot from the USB Key and nothing else. Any ideas?

thx!

Will it boot off of CD with the drives connected? I'm thinking it needs a bios tweak of some sort. Try turning off USB2 and turn on thumm drive support for dos if available, If you have a bios boot menu option at startup, check to see is the usb drive is available to boot there. Dunno, but my money is on the bios.

It's a Shuttle SS51G P4 Board, It has full USB support. Ive loaded the newest BIOS on the board itself and changed all the values that I think would have made the difference on it.

It's only when using the SATA that it wont boot, if I disco the drives and use IDE I have no problems. The SATA Card is a 4 Port SII and it's BIOS is basic there's no boot option on it so I think it wouldnt be a problem.

On the Boot BIOS order I have 3 Options and they all point to the USB stick, I see it initialize on the BIOS w/o problems.

I think you have Phoenix Award BIOS ... In "Advanced BIOS Features" set "Boot Other Device" as "DISABLED". And "First Boot Device" should be "USB-HDD", while 2nd & 3rd boot devices should be disabled also.

Does the card's BIOS have a way of disabling the device detection (setting the drives to "NONE") ?

Yeah I got Award BIOS on it, Ive got the config setup exactly as you said, but it's no GO, There's nothing on the SATA Card BIOS to select the drive, it's very Basic, Create, Delete RAID. I tried two different USB keys just in case same result.
