Hiya,

I'm amazed that I have actully almost got naslite running all by my self :o :D

Just shows the reviews are right, in that its easy to get working, as I'm somewhat useless at pc stuff :(

Anyway, I believe I have it running and I can see Disc-0 from my wireless laptop, and can copy to Disc-0 :D

However I get the message:
"Sec Slave Drive - ATAP Incompatible
press F1 to resume"
When I first boot up

Which is not good when I want to run the naslitebox with no screen, mouse, or keyboard

Much appreciate any pointers as to where to read up on the subject or what to do :) so I don't need to press F1

I also get the message:
"ACPI unable to locate RSDP"
Which does not sound good to me, also I have no idea as to what it means, but it seems to work......?

Just in case it helps, I have an old AMD300 with 100ish of RAM, an 8gig hdd with naslite on it, not sure how to format it to be able to use the rest of the 8gig, and a Hitachi PATA 500gb as Disc-0 for storage, all connected to a D-Link router.

Many thanks for your thoughts
:)

You might have your cd-rom drive still as your first boot drive; check the BIOS of your motherboard.

As for your syslog: I hope Tony can have a look whether there are some anomalies, or not.

Can you post how you have the hard drives setup.

I think you have the bios setup wrong.
i.e is the Sec Slave Drive a CD rom device?

If its a REALLY old system the BIOS settings might actually depend on a working CMOS battery :)

Well yes, or the bios will forget its previous settings. and set its self to its defaults.

Wonderfull :D

Thanks for the pointers, I'm running a bit late but could not resist the temptation of checking up here, so will have to check things out properly later.

The cdrom is not connected to its usual socket mid ribbon (disconnected), as the socket on the end of that ribbon would not reach the naslite hdd drive (does now).

So naslite is on the end of one ribbon, and the 500gb is on the end of the other ribbon.

Naslite 8gb hdd is set to master, and 500gb set to ribbon dectection.

Am I correct in thinking the end socket is the master over the mid socket...?

Thank you very much for your comments so far, I will look into getting another battery, and very much look forward to getting it running correctly :) Thanks again, will talk very soon
Cheers

You need to go into the BIOS Setup and set the Secondary Master to CD-Rom. It sounds as if it's expecting a hard drive. It should be in the "Standard CMOS" section or something similar.

Go to your bios then change date & go to Automatic detect HDD or HDD Detector where its will serach for available IDE Device connected your Pc . save your Bios settenigs and reboot. If your motherboard battery okey it should be able save the changes otherwise its will change to default settings so you have change the battery first otherwise you have to press f1 every time.
and also check your bios able to detect your new HDD. as your mother board old then its might not able to detect large HDD so then you need to update your bios or motherboard

if your bios can detect hdd then login to Naslite system go to storage then you will find format option after format save settings & reboot you will get disk 2 .

Gud luck

Make sure APM is disabled in the BIOS and turn on only ACPI. I've had cases where when the onboard IDEs are disabled or set to none, the kernel will fail to locate the RSDP and kill ACPI support.

If possibe let me know what is motherboard name & model then i will check ur Bios model & yr. thanks gudluck

Many thanks for your comments :-)

I had a fiddle and learnt about ide1port with cable plugs ide0 and ide1, also ide2port with cable plugs ide2 and ide3,
8gig with naslite is now sitting on ide0 and 500gb storage is on ide1, bios is set to boot from ide0 and all the other ide's not installed as 500gig not recognised, I think, anyway it works :-)

So the thing boots and can work headless now, thank you.

I guess the bios remembers without the battery as turning on after 24hrs of no power still works :-)

Just need to have a play with the acpi thing next...

:D
