Hi,

What is the best way to benchmark a NASLite server? It will be tested via different XP Pro SP2 computers?

I have Drive speed checker from Exibition software that is capable of simple testing of LAN connected drives. I have also heard of (and D/Led) Iozone but don't know how to use it to test a distant drive.

TIA and best regards

I'm answering my own post with the informations I found (so that others may benefit)

Some programs for testing:

DiskWriggler A command line to start testing (found the info on the forum, haven't played with it yet): diskwriggler -NTSC -C -t -n 500 -o y:\ (replace the y:\ with the drive letter to your NAS)

You have also IOZone. Very complete but you may need some time to read and understand the test results... I'm not sure how it can be used with a mapped drive.

The fastest and easiest (but not the most accurate of course) DiskSpeed but seems to test only local (physical) drives)

Regards.

for macs i like AJA's system test tool (meant to test throughput for their high end video cards)

direct download:
http://www.aja.com/ajashare/AJA_KONA_Sy ... v2.app.tar

"A Macintosh utility for measuring system performance with AJA KONA Video Capture cards. The application includes disk drive speed tests and Macintosh video data copy (DMA) speeds. The disk speed tests differ from standard disk I/O performance applications in that they specifically test the system under conditions typically encountered with video capture, playback and editing. Note: most of the disk performance tests are generic and don't require an AJA KONA Video Capture card. The DMA performance tests do require a KONA card and AJA KONA Driver software to operate. The DMA tests are not compatible with AJA Io products."
