I have a NASLite 2 CCD box and all is well in accessing the box via Telnet, FTP, HTTP and if i browse to it over my network (from my network places). The only problem i have is from one particular computer (i know the faults more than likey on this PC). All computers are on the same workgroup (inc NAS box), except the one with the problem. This is my works laptop and is configured to use an domain instead, i can browse all other shares on other workgrouped PC but when trying the NAS box i get prompted with:

I have tried 'guest' and 'visitor' as password.

Any ideas / help would be greatfully appresheated.

Thanks in advanced Gavin

Judging by the amount of chatter in other forums this seems to be a common problem with Visa. Not Vista to NASLite, rather the way the backup functions in Vista. Folks are reporting this problem widely trying to use the Vista backup function to network resources. Here is what worked for me:

1. Bring up windows explorer (right click on the start orb, then select explore)
2. Navigate to a NASLite volume and right click on it.
3. Choose properties, then the security tab.
4. Notice what is listed in the 'Group or user names:' box. In my case it is 'Everyone' and 'admin' (probably something similar for everyone).
5. When the authentication box comes up when starting the Vista backup, use Everyone as the user name and anything in the password box (you must type in something here even tho none is set on NASLite).

I have completed 3 backup cycles on two different Vista machines using this procedure. Let us know how it goes, and as always YMMV!!

Cheers,

Tim
