I get the above error on bootup after initial install.

I've read past threads and disabled everything that isn't needed in the BIOS. I also have an LSI MegaRAID card. Can that be it.

I know the system works as it was able to boot to SUSE that was loaded previously.

Thanks,
-Patrick..

How much memory do you have installed and how big is the RAID array on your LSI card? It may be that your machine has scheduled a boot-time volume check of the array. I ask because I had a problem with a failed volume-check on a 1.0TB array which was solved by increasing from 256MB to 512MB of RAM.

Thanks for the quick response.

I currently have 512mb of Memory with Five(5) 250gb SATA drives. I am using a separate boot drive(60gb IDE). I know overkill, but I had SUSE on it before.

Basically, I'm stumped and any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Try removing all of the drives (except 60GB) and remove 1 stick of RAM (if 2 x 256MB) - then reboot. Also, were all of the drives installed when you installed NASLite? The reason I ask this is, if not, you may be suffering from PSU overload at boot.

I just upgraded my power supply as I was thinking that was the reason I was loosing drives before when running SUSE. The drive appear to be running fine now, but I'll try that tonight. I guess I'll even re-install to see if that does any good.

Thanks,
-Patrick.

I encountered the same error although I have 1GB of RAM ;)
I traced it to the CAS latency. When set to 3 (as supported by the module) I get that message, but when set to 4, system runs fine.....

I give the CAS things a try tomorrow and if that doesn't work, then $30 down the drain.

Well, I tried to change the CAS but my max is 2 or 2.5. It is currently set to 2.5.

I thought this software was going to be a piece of Cake.

Oh well.

Would the fact the my memory(512mb - 1 Stick) is sharing/allocating 32mb for the video be a problem. I guess I can through in a video card if that would help.

Try activating the SPD to set your RAM timings.

It is and it works just fine! The problem is that there is just no way that Ralph and Tony can roll in support for every "F"ing device and hardware config there is so you run into problems sometimes. The great part is that there are REALLY CHEAP desktop computer to be had at most neighborhood computer shops that will work just great for the purpose of a NAS box. Better still is the fact that most of these guys will even exchange the thing for another if you can't get it to work or run stable.

Oh well.

Shouldn't effect it at all, in fact that is the config that my machine uses, the video is built into the Intel chip set and uses part of the memory in AGP.

Sorry to knock the software, but I paid a lot of money for the MB, RAID Card, HDDs and chassis(Armor with 5 fans) to cool everything and it worked with Suse 10 for two years. I wasn't until moved and lost two(2) drives. Fortunately, Maxtor replaces their drives under warranty and I know maxtors aren't that good, but their prices at the time were the best.

I'm willing to try anything buy changing desktops due the fact the Five(5) 250g SATA drive get pretty Hot in a cramped boxes.

If I don't get it to work on this machine, I will use my other desktop with a couple Terabyte drives and take the 250s and use them as external backups.

Understood, but just remember that the mind set behind NASLite in the first place. It is to build a fast, cheap, reliable, dedicated file server from VERY modest parts. Fact is that there is no advantage at all to superfast multicore processors and gigs of memory since they sit idle most of the time and just create heat.

Try listing some more info about the MB and RAID card so we can get an idea of weather this machine can be made to run NL well.

My systems is as follows:

Mach Speed 623DMP Socket 370 Motherboard
512MB RAM
LSI MegaRAID SATA 150-6
Five(5) Maxtor 250G HDs
One(1) 60G EIDE for the OS
DVD Burner
Armor Thermaltake Chassis
PC Power & Cooling / Silencer / 610-Watt / PCI-Express / SATA-Ready / Copper Power Supply
Five(5) Fans (3 blowing across the SATA drives, 1 on top and 1 in the back of chassis.

I tried everthing that was advised and still now luck. I even reset the BIOS started over.

The odd thing now is that I can't reload the software as it give me the same error as my original post.

Thanks

My gut feeling is that you are a victim of the Via chipset used on that motherboard. Socket370 motherboards are a dime a dozen, I would try and find one that uses one of the Intel chipsets. I find that NL runs really stable if I use the Intel processor and chipset. The load is easy and fast and it runs like a top for months on end without issue. I just moved over 500GB around on my NL box and clients without one single issue or problem. I would urge you not to give up on the software but instead just change the board and your problems will be gone.

As a side note, the DVD burner is wasted on the box. All that is needed is a cdrom drive and a slow one at that since the box is loaded from it at boot and never again.
