 Post subject: Server extreeemly slow

I have just installed NASLite-2 HDD on the following system:

MBO: Asrock i945/ICH7 s775
CPU: Intel Dual Core E2160 1.8GHz
RAM: 1GB Geil Ultra PC5300 DDR2
HDD: 2 x 500GB SATA2 (Seagate)

But something is very wrong because the transfer rate is AWFUL! It's about 30kb/s (that's kilobytes!!!). What could be the problem? Even when I format the drives from the NASLite interface the access to them is rather slow. Booting is also not as fast as it should be....

Any ideas?

Hi, you have a IRQ conflict with your SATA drives and a USB port, unless you are going to be using external USB drives, just turn off USB in the BIOS.

On a side note, Tony and I have discussed auto detecting IRQ conflicts and reporting them back in the web gui in a future update.

I've tried it, but with no success (although the speed has gone up to an "astonishing" 60 kb/s :( ).

Have you switched *every* unneccessary BIOS feature off? Also, disable uPNP on the motherboard and disable assignment of IRQ's if you can. I had a hell of a time getting the IRQ conflicts ironed out on my board.

Didn't notice the option to disable the IRQ assignement (although I will check again later), but everything else that's not used is disabled. Serial port..parallel port...onboard audio...onboard LAN (have a PCI NIC)...USB... I even tried to put the SATA controller in the "legacy" or "compatible" mode and not in the "enhanced" mode but with no results. I'll try to install it on an old PATA drive later today and see what happens.

Prior to installing on this new machine, I installed it on an old Athlon system with PATA interface that I have and it runs perfectly on that without any tweaking in the BIOS.... So this is quite a dissapointment.... :(

I have the same issue. And still have not figured everything out yet. irq conflicts are killing me. I would be greatly interested if you find a solution. I, like you, have disabled all essential.

Fantastic idea! :D Perhaps even a IRQ-conflict section in the forums with motherboard specific info like what PCI slots share the same IRQ etc. I have data to contribute with :)

Changing the NIC seemed to have solved the problem. The onboard Realtek gigabit NIC didn't work, so i plugged in an old 3com 3CSOH0100-TX that I had around. The transfer rate was awfull. I replaced it with an even older Realtek 8139 chipset 100Base-T card and now I have transfer speeds of about 9.5Mb/s which is ok.
