I am looking for a recommendation for a RAID5 controller. It needs to support at least 6 (prefer 8) 1TB drives. Array expansion is needed as I will be starting out with only 3 drives and will be adding more over time and it will not be practical to rebuild the array every time. Staggered spinup is highly desired as is greater than 2TB arrays and an alarm on drive failure. As always the cheaper the better.

Any ideas guys?

TIA…

I just got my intel SRCS16 (really an LSI 150-6 ) going with 5 500GBs. The new firmware busted the 2TB restriction, but they didn't note a new upper limit.

I'm not sure how you can add drives without rebuilding, and many new controllers (possibly with that feature) aren't compatible with the current kernel.
